ATP Coach - Juanma Esparcia

About Me

Tennis, Growth, and Calling

I was born in Albacete (Spain) and discovered tennis at a very young age. What began as a hobby soon became the lens through which I understand life.

During my formative years, I spent time in Valencia and later in the United States, where tennis stopped being just a sport and became a path of learning, discipline, and personal growth.

I started as a player. I experienced competition, travel, and high demands—but over time, I realized that my true calling was helping others reach their best version.

That was the beginning of my journey as a coach. Since then, I’ve remained deeply curious and committed to continuous training, learning from outstanding professionals of our sector, from players on tour (ATP, ITF, WTA), and from experiences around the world (Spain, China, USA, Germany, Singapur).

Thanks to all this gained experience, I have the privilege of being an active advisor and trainer as well.

I invite you to continue reading about me throughout the following specific subjects:

30 years bringing together education, innovation, and experience—a defining pillar of modern tennis.

The evolution of modern tennis is driven by knowledge, scientific evidence, and technology. But turning all of that into real results is where experience makes the difference.

Experience, Expertise, and Recognition

My path in tennis has not been linear, but it has been consistent: education, high performance, coaching, and sports management.

Throughout my career, holistic education and the development of high-performance players have been a fundamental pillar. But they have not been the only one—I am equally passionate about coach education and sports management.

My specialization in these areas stems from a combination of skill and knowledge development through education, two-way learning with outstanding professionals—including the players themselves—, and extensive experience gained in real-world environments over the years.

Over more than three decades, I have coached and/or directed a large number of ATP, WTA, and ITF Junior players, and have contributed to talent development within prestigious academies and federations around the world.
In 2010, I was recognized by the Professional Tennis Registry as “ATP Coach of the Year” for my work alongside Guillermo García López, whom I helped rise from world No. 97 to No. 23—the highest ranking of his career.

Coach Education and Strategic Consulting

Coach education is one of the areas that has brought me the greatest professional satisfaction. As an educator, I have participated in international conferences, certifications, and courses, sharing an up-to-date, rigorous, and in-depth perspective on coaching, training, and professional development in tennis.

As a sports consultant, I have worked with institutions, academies, federations, and clubs to design and optimize their technical, organizational, and methodological structures. I have supported deep transformation processes within multidisciplinary teams, shaping education systems, performance plans, and long-term strategies.

Athlete Representation and Career Management

In addition to my experience as a coach, I have worked in athlete management and representation. I have served as a FIFA-licensed agent, representing high-level football players, and I have also managed the careers of professional tennis players, supporting them in representation and in making key decisions related to sports planning, sponsorships, personal branding, and international positioning.

This dimension of my career has allowed me to develop a global network of contacts and acquire a strategic perspective that I now integrate into my high-performance programs, consulting, and coach education.

Integrating Sports Science and Experience

Although my initial approach was practical, I have always understood the importance of integrating sports science with experience. This led me to pursue continuous education and collaborate with leading figures from academia and research, enabling me to connect real-world experience with scientific knowledge. This balance has been key to strengthening my capabilities, addressing my limitations, and evolving as a professional.

Today, I am supported by a multidisciplinary team across all areas of sport, including physical preparation, psychology, medicine, education and research, and management. This allows me to deliver a comprehensive, high-quality service.

Strategic Partnership: Evolutennis

As the result of a long-standing and solid professional relationship with David Sanz—whom I deeply admire and with whom I share a comprehensive vision of player development, coach education, and sports structures—we co-founded Evolutennis: a platform that delivers advanced solutions in education, advisory services, and strategic consulting for clubs, academies, federations, and multidisciplinary teams.

David is not only my business partner, but also the person who sparked my passion for teaching. We have worked closely together for many years and jointly design programs that combine scientific evidence with more than three decades of experience applied to high-performance environments, supporting players and coaches at every stage of their development within highly demanding international professional contexts.

Philosophy and Purpose

My purpose in life and work can be summarized in a phrase that has always guided me:

“Quality never fails, and attention to detail always comes first.”

I firmly believe that every player, coach, or organization needs a unique strategy.
I don’t believe in standard methods. I believe in projects driven by purpose, discipline, and human commitment.

Commitment to the Future of Tennis and Legacy

Beyond results in high-performance environments, my true mission is to inspire, educate, and leave a legacy in the world of tennis. Every training session, project, or collaboration is built with the same passion and attention to detail that have defined my entire career.

Based in Alicante, I provide services for players, coaches, multidisciplinary teams, academies, tennis schools, and federations, including education programs and speaking engagements at an international level.
